“THE EFFECT OF LEADERSHIP STYLES ON TEACHERS’ JOB SATISFACTION AND COMMITMENT.”
Objective:
Leadership is important in any organization including the school system. Leadership style is even more important when it comes to teachers’ job satisfaction and commitment.
- The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leadership styles on teacher satisfaction and commitment to work in the Seventh-day Schools in the Northeastern Conference.
- To provide information to the Administrators of the Northeastern Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church based on the results of the study as to the leadership styles used in their elementary schools and High schools on teachers’ job satisfaction and commitment.
Participants
The population was made up of 12 elementary and High schools combined and 12 Principals, 140 teachers and 1224 students. The sample is 120 respondents representing 85.7% of the total teachers’s population.
Tools
To measure leadership styles, the research study used three different instruments: the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire(MLQ), the job satisfaction scale (JSS), and Commitment scale (CC), using a 5-Point Likert scale ranging from Strongly Disagree (1), Disagree (2), Neither agree and nor Disagree (3), Agree (4) and Strongly Agree (5).
Results
This study was to find out if leadership styles are predictors of job satisfaction and organizational commitment of the study teachers of the Seventh-day Adventist Schools in the Northeast Conference. Leadership styles were found to be an important significant predictor of job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
